Practitioner Training
Training for certification as an EEG Awakened Mind Consciousness Trainer involves an investment of time and money, as well as a heartfelt commitment to the lifelong journey of awakening yourself and others to higher states of consciousness: a vast storehouse of creative ideas and insights residing below everyday awareness in the subconscious mind.
Training consists of a series of seminars and practicums designed by the late Anna Wise, the prominent mind researcher who perfected this curriculum over a decade spent writing books, teaching seminars at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, Calif., and training Awakened Mind practitioners in San Rafael and Berkeley, Calif. Wise trained 130 practitioners, about 65 of whom were certified and today use EEG-monitored meditation in various parts of the world to help clients and students attain non-ordinary states for peak performance. There are fewer than 10 practitioners in America.
EEG-monitored meditation teaches people to master their minds in order to master their lives. While some individuals merely wish to calm their minds for relaxation and improved health, recent scientific studies on meditation are prompting untold numbers of people to recognize that the quiet mind draws on the clarity, creativity, insight, intuition and spiritual awareness of the subconscious for life guidance and an extraordinary array of health-giving benefits in the mind, body and spirit. (See Meditation and Healing for more on this.)
If you decide to pursue Practitioner Training, your clients and students will be the rapidly increasing percentage of the population willing and able to develop the power and potential of their minds for the inner peace and transformation that lead to higher states of awareness. If you are already a biofeedback or neurofeedbacktherapist, your clientele will be readily available. Entering this field as a psychotherapist, bodyworker, hypnotist, energy healer, physician, nurse or the like will also provide you with a ready clientele. Otherwise, you will need some basic advertising and marketing skills to develop a client base that will pay you between $100 and $200 for a two-hour session. The last two practitioner trainings provide guidelines, ideas and approaches to attracting a clientele. Your biggest draw is the fact that so few people can offer what you offer: that is, the only fast-track to meditation, mind expansion and consciousness development.
The Mind Mirror Infiniti
The only available version of the Mind Mirror is a small, lightweight and easily portable device that replaces the Mind Mirror 3 made by electronics engineer Neil Hancock.
The ProComp 2, produced by Thought Technology, is a single-subject EEG used for self-training, research, and working with others. It is a state-of-the-art encoder (EEG) that is assembled by hand at Thought Technology’s plant in Canada. It comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
Technical support on the equipment is free. Questions about the Mind Mirror are directed to Judith Pennington. You can see the ProComp 2—and the ProComp 5 (2 users) and ProComp 8 (4 users)—at this URL: http://thoughttechnology.com/hardware.htm
The Mind Mirror Infiniti includes electrodes and wires, BioGraph Infiniti software (EEG Suite or Physiology Suite) and the latest Mind Mirror program, plus 3 tubes each of gel and paste and the cost of shipping to Judith. The equipment will need to be reshipped to you. This is everything you will need, in terms of equipment, to set up a practice.
What the Program Teaches
Practitioner Training teaches everything you need to become a certified consciousness trainer, including how to use the equipment, draw, read and interpret brainwave patterns, write and lead meditations, interact with clients, groups and audiences, and many other skills that make this a full-time professional career.
The syllabus below lists the content of a certification program. If you are already a biofeedback or neurofeedback therapist and wish to use the Mind Mirror—a unique, composite EEG unlike any other—for self-training or research, an individualized training program can be designed for you.
Practitioner trainings are conducted by Judith Pennington, a leading meditation and consciousness trainer who studied with Anna Wise—protege of C. Maxwell Cade, inventor of the Mind Mirror—in 2005-2006 and regularly assisted her at Esalen Institute from 2006 until her passing in 2010.
Trainings are scheduled according to the mutual convenience of students in the group. A mind-awakening experience in itself, due to the subject matter and group synergy, Practitioner Training carries only two prerequisites:
Email us with questions and to enroll in the next Practitioner Training Program. The cost of each session or practicum is $1,000. Trainings are usually 4.5-days in length. Payments are made in advance via PayPal.
Seminar 1: Includes contextual history of awakened mind brainwave training; the basic theory of brainwave categories and the awakened mind pattern; software loading, electrode placements and Mind Mirror operation; brainwave profiles and drawings; brainwave pattern recognition and interpretation; signature patterns; the Wise training protocol, and establishing an individualized protocol.
Seminar 2: Includes training specific brainwave frequencies and category combinations; writing meditations for beta mastery, alpha development, theta development, delta and the awakened mind; leading meditations, voice, presentation and practical issues.
Practicum 1: The first of two practical experiential seminars. The student is expected to have completed a number of brainwave profiles and to present an original meditation to be shared with the group and critiqued by the teacher. Student will be observed and receive feedback and continued instruction on voice and presentation. There is also continued practice, with the group, in drawing brainwave patterns.
Seminar 3: Includes dealing with the content that arises from the subconscious; conducting individual sessions; using brainwave training for creativity, personal growth, self-healing, and spiritual development within an individual client format; direct feedback; the relationship of the state and the content of consciousness. Each participant will experience an individual session with the group observing.
Seminar 4: Includes understanding protocols and planning for three-hour, one-day, weekend, three-day, and five-day workshops (the "grid" system); how to lead groups in meditation; processing content within a group format; group dynamics; ethics; bio-monitoring and giving brainwave feedback within the group context; addressing "energetics," spiritual crisis, and spiritual development; and how to attract and build a practice.
Practicum 2: In this second practicum, each student is expected to lead a group session using a meditation he or she has written, and will receive feedback on presentation and content. Each student will also receive feedback on required brainwave profiles (see below), five sets of case studies, and the meditations written for each brainwave category and the awakened mind state.
Certification requires attending all Practitioner Training seminars and is given when the student exhibits satisfactory knowledge of the material and techniques, and displays an ability to help others awaken their minds. The purpose of the practicums is to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge and ability, while receiving feedback and developing their skills.
The independent case studies (writing meditations and conducting sessions) carried out between seminars give the student the skills and confidence needed to become an Awakened Mind Consciousness Trainer. The primary independent study project entails five sessions with each of five clients, along with a case history on each, to be presented to the teacher no less than one week before Practicum 2. These sessions and case histories indicate the student’s depth of understanding and ability to do the work.
